I'm not seeing any new members posting/submitting artwork, no changes made, no effort on behalf of the staff to keep things even remotely active or bring in new activity... I understand it's a busy time of year with the holidays, but what's going on with this site?

From this side, I am currently building social media connections to promote the site a bit further. I am also discussing plans and options with two future staff members to bring a bit of activity to the site. The main issue being that there are already so many graphic-based artist sites. I am currently considering adding different niches such as music / film-making to the site, but this will of course require additional functionality.

As I don't believe that it would make sense if staff members post random content just to keep things less inactive, I am hopeful that more visitors will join the site and keep up with posting their work. I don't expect it much, but of course I am hopeful.

You should send out a mass e-mail to members once things are in order.

Checked up on this site as an afterthought, but it's sad that it's not really going anywhere. To be honest, there's really not much this group has to offer at the moment. The forums are a bit dull, there's no real way to share art other than in a gallery... Which, doesn't really help artists insofar as getting updates on works in progress. I just feel like this place is blah, you know? Sorry to say but if things don't pick up here it'll probably just vanish from the back of my mind. I won't be coming to a place that doesn't have anything to offer.

Your problem isn't about graphic based sites and their competition, it's about your lack of content to be frank. You can't talk about competition when you're not even in the running.

Some suggestions:
Promote more "showcasing" in forum. Artists like to post works in progress and receive feedback. A gallery like the one you have set up is quite counter-productive to your overall traffic. It's separate from the forum and dissuades members from commenting.
Do something about the forum layout. It's dull and un-interesting.
Set up means for friendly competition. POTF, LAOTW, shit like that. Keeps folks interested and motivated.
Promote more resource sharing. Artists love learning new things, and sharing what they already know.

Do something or let this site die and let people move on to other sites.

^Agreed. You're letting the few bonus members you had from the previous forum slip away. While you're getting things together you should at least have a group of dedicated people adding quality content so that when you do get people here they have some stuff to interact with.
